New name for project

IMHO,

It would be a Good Thing© if the name of the project were more search-friendly. The word "maintain" is ubiquitous on the Internet. Finding the project is next to impossible, unless you already know to search for Oregon or OSU.

A unique word or unusual spelling would be easier to find, and the news about the project would get out better.

The following are examples of possibilities:

-- MaintainOR is befitting because Oregon State University helps maintain the Open Source cause, in a charitable and disinterested way. See http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/maintainor.

-- MaintainZone
-- MaintainDNS
-- ZoneMaintain
-- DNSMaintain
-- ActiveMaintain
-- MaintainOS
-- OSMaintain

Naming issues

Loye,

thanks for your suggestions. We also realized that the name Maintain is quite frequently used on the internet (since it is also a regular English word).

However, if you search Google for "Maintain DNS", this website is the second result.

We do think the "popularity" of the (quite new) Maintain website will gradually pick up and we hope then it will be easier for people to find us on the net. A lot of popularity also comes from collecting links to the web site all over the net, which obviously takes quite a while.

Thanks,
Fred

Search friendly name

If "Maintain DNS" is the best way to search for the site, perhaps the project should be called "MaintainDNS."

I note that the domains maintaindns .org, .com, and .net, are all available.

Not only DNS

No, that does not work. It would trick people into thinking Maintain was only a DNS management application that somehow also manages to handle DHCP and similar. But in fact with the right modules you can build a lot of config files etc. for the most different kinds of networks.

A community contributor, for example, already built a simple nmap module, and off the top of my head, I can also imagine doing SNMP interaction with network hardware.

Thanks.
